Webbers Jaguar, Basingstoke Webbers were awarded the Jaguar franchise for north Hampshire in 1968, so will soon be in their fourth decade of association with the marque. Founder Walter William Webber, was involved in the sale and maintenance of the motor car for almost as long as it has been in existence, first opening for business in 1900 - 15 years after Karl Benz ran the first petrol engined car. The company was registered in 1910, originally selling and repairing bicycles, but evolved quickly to meet the demands of the emerging motor industry. Webbers enjoyed a very busy period during the Second World War, having been commissioned by the Ministry of Supply to repair military and emergency vehicles. Over the years, as the town of Basingstoke has continued to grow and develop, Webbers have also moved with the times, but not at the expense of their sense of tradition. The company still remains a family owned business under the current managing director, Winton Webber, Walter William`s great grandson.
