It was created in April 1998 when the former Newbury District Council took on responsibilities from Berkshire County Council, which was abolished. West Berkshire have an excellent web site. West Berkshire is located in the M4 corrider about 60 miles west of London, making it ideal for commuters and also give excellent access to Heathrow. Newbury is the international Headquarters of Vodaphone. There is a station with direct access to London as well as access to an excellent road network. The M4 can take you west to Swindon, Bristol and Wales. If you go east you have easy access to Reading, Heathrow and London. While the A34 you have easy access to the South coast and the Midlands. Whilst the A34 bypass also now means that the traffic gridlock in the centre of Newbury is a thing of the past.
